Laurie is a conservation biologist with extensive experience in wildlife and ecological studies and planning efforts in Alaska. She holds degrees in Biology and Environmental Studies from the University of California, Santa Cruz and has been working on biological research and conservation projects around Kachemak Bay, lower Cook Inlet and the outer Kenai Peninsula coast for many years. She was a member of the original KBNERR biological team before moving on to lead biological impact assessment and restoration projects with the Alaska Maritime National Wildlife Refuge in Homer. Presently, Laurie is working on nearshore habitat research and conservation projects for KBNERR, with a particular fondness for Mud Bay which coincidentally fronts the reserve headquarters. She divides her free time between forays into the wilds, marine and terrestrial, and around her mini-homestead on the high bluff over the bay with her faithful dog, Leiper, never far from her side.
