Non-Native species presence/absence records in the AKEPIC database are the result of numerous data submissions over many years from state and federal agencies, private entities, non-profit organizations, and individuals. Data submissions are vital to maintaining AKEPIC as the statewide repository for non-native plant information. The following resources are provided to aid the process of submitting data records to Alaska Center for Conservation Science:
- The AKEPIC Field Data Sheet is a field survey data form. The form is complete with all fields required or optional for entry into the AKEPIC database and is organized to make entry into the excel data entry form straitforward.
- The AKEPIC User’s Manual provides documentation on the data contribution process, collecting AKEPIC data in the field, the AKEPIC data entry excel form, and use of the AKEPIC database.
- The AKEPIC Data Dictionary provides field definitions and associated format requirements, examples, and constraints.
Submit Data to AKEPIC
To submit AKEPIC data, download the data entry form by clicking the button below. Enter data onto the form, filling out all required fields at a minimum per presence/absence record (i.e. per row).
Email the completed form to: uaa.aknp (at) alaska.edu
Financial Support of Data Services
As of 2016, the maintenance and management cost of AKEPIC is approximately $30,000 per year, and ACCS supports nearly 70% of the operating cost alone. Our web consultants and Heritage Program staff continually address data and web server issues to provide a free and streamlined service to the community.
CNIPM recognizes that doing our best to provide high quality data freely to the public is an important goal for minimizing the risks of invasive plant spread in the state. The AKEPIC data portal continues to be heavily used by in-state managers and researchers as well as international researchers.
Financial support comes from federal partners, state and local organizations, and individuals that submit data to AKEPIC. We recommend that $2 be contributed per AKEPIC record submitted for perpetual data management. Contributions can be donated online, or formal payments can be arranged by contacting Justin Fulkerson: jrfulkerson (at) alaska.edu
